It Started With a Simple Question
Several parents were asking:
“What should our children study to survive in the AI era?”
Computer Science? AI? Engineering? Business? Medicine? Law?
But the more I thought about it, the more I felt that choosing the “right” course is only part of the answer.
Technology is changing too quickly for us to know exactly which skills, tools or jobs will matter 10 or 20 years from now.
So perhaps there is a bigger question:
What should we build within ourselves so we can continue to learn, adapt and create value — no matter how technology changes?
That question became the starting point for this 9-Element Framework.
🌱 The goal isn’t to predict the future. It’s to become better prepared to grow with it.
9 Elements to Flourish in the AI Era
The framework brings together five foundations, three human capabilities and one ability that keeps everything growing — the ability to keep learning.
🌱 These are not nine separate subjects to master.
They work together, within whatever domain or path we choose.
Build a Strong Foundation
A strong foundation isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about developing the knowledge, thinking skills and digital capabilities that help us understand our domain, work with new technology and make sense of a changing world.
1. One Deep Domain
Go deep in something you care about.
Technology can help us do more, but we still need something meaningful to apply it to. Deep domain knowledge gives us context, credibility and the ability to recognize what really matters.
2. AI Literacy
Understand AI — not just how to use an AI tool.
Know what AI can and cannot do, how to work with it effectively, and when its answers need to be questioned or checked.
3. Data Literacy
Learn to understand what the data is telling us.
Read, interpret and question data. Turn information into insight and use it to support better decisions.
4. Digital & Software Capability
Be comfortable using technology to get things done.
Understand how digital tools and software can improve the way we work, solve problems and create new possibilities.
5. Critical Thinking & Creativity
Question. Analyze. Connect. Imagine.
Think independently, challenge assumptions, connect ideas and explore new possibilities — especially when there isn’t one obvious answer.
🌱 The foundation gives us something to build on. But knowledge alone isn’t enough — we also need the capabilities to put it into action.
Turn Knowledge Into Action – The Capabilities
A strong foundation gives us knowledge and tools. But creating value also depends on how well we work with people, solve real problems and make good decisions.
These capabilities help us turn what we know into meaningful action.
6. Communication & Collaboration
Ideas create more value when we can share and build on them together.
Express ideas clearly, listen to different perspectives and work effectively with others. As AI takes on more tasks, our ability to communicate, collaborate and connect people becomes even more important.
7.Real-World Problem Solving
Real problems rarely come with perfect instructions.
Learn to work through messy, complex situations, understand what really matters and develop practical, human-centred solutions — even when there isn’t one obvious answer.
8. Judgement & Decision-Making
AI can provide answers. We still need to decide what makes sense.
Evaluate context, question assumptions, weigh trade-offs and make thoughtful decisions. Good judgement helps us know when to trust technology, when to question it and when human judgement matters most.

9. The Ability to Keep Learning
The world will keep changing. So must we.
No matter how strong our knowledge and capabilities are today, some of them will eventually become outdated.
The ability to keep learning helps us stay curious, unlearn what no longer works, relearn when things change, and continue developing new knowledge and skills.
It doesn’t mean constantly chasing every new technology or trend.
It means being willing and able to learn when we need to, adapt when things change, and keep growing throughout life.

The 9 Elements Work Together
These are not nine separate subjects that everyone needs to master.
The idea is to develop them together, within whatever domain or path we choose.
Our domain knowledge gives us depth. AI, data and digital capabilities give us new ways to work. Critical thinking, communication, problem solving and judgement help us decide how to apply them well.
And continuous learning keeps everything evolving as the world changes.
🌱 The goal isn’t to learn each element separately.
It’s to bring them together to create value in the real world.
A Lifelong Journey
Preparing for the future isn’t something we do once.
As we move through different stages of life and work, we continue building knowledge, learning new things, adapting to change and finding new ways to create value.
🌱 There is no final destination.
We may return to these stages again and again — learning something new, adapting, going deeper and finding new ways to contribute.
A Final Thought
We don’t know exactly what work will look like 10 or 20 years from now.
Technology will continue to change. Some skills will become less relevant, while new opportunities will emerge that we can’t yet imagine.
We may not be able to predict the future — but we can continue building our ability to learn, adapt and create value as the world changes.
This 9-Element Framework started from a simple question and grew as I thought more deeply about how we can prepare ourselves and the next generation for an uncertain future.
It isn’t meant to be the final answer. It’s an evolving thought — one that I hope we can continue to explore, discuss and develop together.
