PenangBiz.com is a local business discovery platform operated by PenangBiz Online (SSM Business Registration No.: 202603256439 (AS0522365-K)).
Our directory includes listings submitted by businesses as well as basic business listings created by PenangBiz.com from publicly available information.
This policy explains how business listings are created and managed, what Unclaimed and Claimed mean, how business owners may claim or submit listings, and how corrections, disputes and removal requests are handled.
How Businesses Are Added to PenangBiz.com
A business may appear on PenangBiz.com when:
- a business owner or authorised representative submits the business;
- PenangBiz.com creates a basic listing using publicly available business information; or
- PenangBiz.com otherwise receives information that is appropriate for inclusion in our local business directory.
PenangBiz.com may decide which businesses and categories are appropriate for the directory.
A new listing submitted directly by a business owner or authorised representative may be treated as a Claimed Listing once PenangBiz.com has reviewed and approved the submission.
Being listed does not mean that a business has paid PenangBiz.com or has a commercial relationship with us.
Unclaimed Listings
An Unclaimed Listing is a basic directory listing that PenangBiz.com has created but which has not been claimed by a person representing the business.
Information may be compiled from publicly available sources such as:
- an official business website;
- an official or publicly accessible business social media page;
- publicly accessible maps or business directories;
- booking or marketplace platforms;
- tourism, association or government information; and
- other reasonably reliable public sources.
An Unclaimed Listing has not necessarily been submitted, reviewed or approved by the business concerned.
“Unclaimed” does not mean that the business is inactive, unregistered or unreliable. It simply describes the status of the listing on PenangBiz.com.
Information We May Include
For PenangBiz-created Unclaimed Listings, we generally aim to include only factual information useful for business discovery, such as:
- business name;
- business category;
- general description of the business;
- business address or area;
- publicly listed telephone number;
- publicly confirmed WhatsApp contact;
- operating hours;
- official website or social media information, where appropriate for verification or directory purposes; and
- other basic factual business information where appropriate.
We make reasonable efforts to check information before publishing it, but publicly available information may be incomplete or outdated.
Users should confirm important information directly with the business.
Descriptions and Third-Party Content
Where PenangBiz.com creates a listing from public information, we aim to write an original factual description rather than copying promotional descriptions from another website or platform.
We generally do not copy third-party photographs, logos, promotional artwork or substantial creative content into an Unclaimed Listing merely because it is publicly visible online.
Business owners who claim or submit their listing may provide their own authorised photographs, logos and other materials for use in accordance with PenangBiz.com’s Terms & Conditions.
Contact Information
PenangBiz.com may display contact information that has been publicly presented as business contact information.
We aim to distinguish between a telephone number and a WhatsApp contact where possible.
For example, PenangBiz.com will not intentionally describe a telephone number as a WhatsApp number merely because it is a mobile number unless we have reasonable information indicating that WhatsApp is offered through that number.
If publicly displayed contact information is incorrect, outdated or inappropriate, please contact us and we will review it.
What “Claimed” Means
A Claimed Listing is a listing that has been claimed or submitted by a person representing the business through PenangBiz.com’s listing or claim process.
Claiming allows the business representative to manage or submit information relating to the listing according to the features available under their listing plan.
A Claimed status does not mean that PenangBiz.com has independently certified, audited or guaranteed:
- the identity or ownership structure of the business;
- company or business registration;
- professional licences;
- financial standing;
- product or service quality;
- reliability or reputation; or
- any claims made by the business.
Users should therefore not interpret “Claimed” as a PenangBiz.com certification or endorsement.
Claiming an Unclaimed Listing
A business owner or authorised representative may request to claim an Unclaimed Listing.
PenangBiz.com may ask for reasonable information to establish that the claimant is associated with or authorised to represent the business.
Depending on the circumstances, this may involve confirmation through business contact information, an official website or social media presence, business documentation or other reasonable evidence.
We do not require the same evidence in every case. The information needed will depend on the nature of the business and the circumstances of the claim.
PenangBiz.com may refuse or delay a claim where:
- there is insufficient information to establish authority;
- information provided appears inaccurate or misleading;
- different parties dispute control of the business;
- we suspect impersonation or fraudulent activity; or
- further review is reasonably required.
Claiming Is Free
Claiming an eligible Unclaimed Listing does not require the business to purchase a Pro package.
A business may claim its listing and remain on the available Free listing plan.
Subject to the current Free plan features and submission limits, a Claimed Free listing may also submit one product or service listing for review.
Businesses may separately choose to purchase a PenangBiz Pro package if they want additional features, products, visibility or digital tools.
Corrections
Business owners, representatives and members of the public may notify PenangBiz.com about information that appears inaccurate or outdated.
Where appropriate, we may check the information against available sources or contact the business before making a change.
For changes that could materially affect control or identity of a listing, we may require additional verification.
Removal Requests
A business owner, authorised representative or affected individual may contact PenangBiz.com to request that information or a business listing be reviewed for correction or removal.
PenangBiz.com will consider such requests reasonably, taking into account:
- the identity and authority of the requester;
- the nature of the information;
- whether the information is publicly available;
- whether the information is accurate;
- the directory and public-discovery purpose of PenangBiz.com;
- privacy, intellectual property or other legitimate concerns; and
- applicable Malaysian law.
Submitting a removal request does not automatically guarantee removal in every circumstance.
However, where information is inaccurate, inappropriate, unlawfully displayed or presents a legitimate privacy or rights concern, we will take appropriate action.
Removal requests are reviewed manually and PenangBiz.com may request reasonable information to verify the requester’s identity, authority or connection to the affected information.
Closed or Inactive Businesses
PenangBiz.com aims to avoid presenting permanently closed businesses as active.
If we become aware that a listed business has permanently closed or ceased operating, we may update, archive or remove the listing as appropriate.
Because business status can change without notice, we cannot guarantee that every closure will be identified immediately.
If you notice a business that appears permanently closed, please notify us.
Duplicate Listings
If the same business appears more than once, PenangBiz.com may merge, archive or remove duplicate listings.
Where one listing has already been claimed, we will take reasonable care not to transfer control or replace information based solely on an unverified duplicate submission.
Disputed Claims
If two or more people claim authority over the same business listing, PenangBiz.com may temporarily restrict changes while the matter is reviewed.
We may request further evidence from the parties concerned.
PenangBiz.com is not responsible for resolving internal ownership, employment, partnership, franchise or corporate disputes. Where necessary, we may leave the listing unchanged, restrict management of it or remove disputed information until the parties resolve the underlying matter.
Free and Pro Listing Features
PenangBiz.com may offer different features under Free and paid listing plans.
Free listings provide basic participation in the PenangBiz.com directory and may include limited product or service submissions and other features published by PenangBiz.com from time to time.
Pro listings may receive additional features, visibility and digital tools.
The current features, limits and pricing for each plan are shown on the relevant PenangBiz.com pricing or service pages and may be updated from time to time.
Pro Listings
Businesses may choose to upgrade to a PenangBiz Pro package for additional features and visibility.
Pro status represents participation in a paid PenangBiz.com service. It does not represent certification, accreditation or endorsement of the business.
Pro businesses remain responsible for the accuracy and legality of information and materials they provide.
Ranking and Visibility
Different listing types may receive different levels of visibility within PenangBiz.com.
For example, Pro businesses may receive priority placement over Free businesses.
Within each listing group, PenangBiz.com may consider factors such as listing completeness, products, activity, relevance, recency or rotation when determining display order.
PenangBiz.com does not guarantee any business a particular search position, ranking, number of views, enquiries or sales.
Our Right to Moderate the Directory
PenangBiz.com reserves the right to review, correct, decline, restrict, archive or remove listings or submitted information where reasonably necessary to:
- maintain directory quality;
- correct inaccurate or misleading information;
- prevent fraud or impersonation;
- protect users or third-party rights;
- comply with applicable law; or
- maintain the purpose and integrity of PenangBiz.com.
We may also decline to list businesses or content that we consider unsuitable for the platform.
No Endorsement
The appearance of any business on PenangBiz.com — whether Unclaimed, Claimed, Free or Pro — does not by itself constitute an endorsement, recommendation, certification or guarantee by PenangBiz.com or PenangBiz Online.
Users remain responsible for deciding whether a particular business, product or service is suitable for their needs.
